How much does it cost to hire an electrician in Calgary?
Electrician pricing in Calgary depends on the type of work, the complexity, and whether permits or inspections are required. Many contractors charge $100–$150/hour, while others provide flat-rate pricing depending on the task.
Crew Technical Services focuses on clear, upfront pricing. For most jobs, you’ll receive a price before work begins, so you’re not stuck watching a clock (or panicking at a surprise invoice). As general ballparks: a basic service call often runs $200–$300, installing common items like outlets/switches/light fixtures can range $150–$400 per item, and typical home repairs may fall around $250–$700 depending on what’s involved. Larger work like a panel upgrade is commonly $3,000–$5,500 based on scope and site conditions.
For more involved projects, the best next step is an on-site assessment or using the Price Guide Estimator.
Do you provide upfront pricing or estimates before work starts?
Yes. Crew Technical Services provides upfront flat-rate pricing before any work begins. That means you’ll understand the scope, the price, and what’s included (labour, materials, warranty) before anyone starts tearing into walls or replacing parts. Get an Online Estimate here.
Pricing is built around what you actually need, not a vague guess. Your electrician will explain what each line item means so you can make a clear decision. If a permit is required, that’s explained upfront as well, including what it’s for and how inspections work in Calgary.
Do you charge a call-out or diagnostic fee?
Yes. Crew Technical Services charges a $75 diagnostic fee. This covers travel to your location, diagnosing the issue, and providing an upfront price for the recommended work.
If you proceed with the repair or service, the diagnostic fee is waived and applied toward the work completed. If there are multiple possible solutions (for example, a simple repair vs. a longer-term upgrade), your electrician will walk you through the options so you can choose what makes sense for your budget and timeline.
Are your electricians licensed and insured in Alberta?
Yes. All electricians at Crew Technical Services are licensed Red Seal Journeyman electricians, and the team includes a Master Electrician. Crew Technical Services also carries $5 million in liability insurance.
Licensing and insurance matter because electrical work is regulated for a reason. You’re not just paying for someone who can make it work. You’re paying for work that is safe, code-compliant, and defensible if you ever need documentation for a sale, an inspection, or an insurance question.
Is your electrical work covered by a warranty?
Yes. Crew Technical Services provides a 1-year labour warranty on installations in Calgary. Equipment warranties vary by manufacturer and commonly range from 2–10 years depending on the product.
Labour warranty covers workmanship for the stated term. Manufacturer warranty covers the product itself and varies by brand.
Will I need a permit for this electrical work?
In many cases, yes. Calgary (and the authority having jurisdiction) typically requires permits for new installations, upgrades, or changes to an electrical system. Permits exist to ensure the work is inspected and meets code, which protects you long-term.
Some repairs or like-for-like replacements may not require a permit, depending on the exact work being done. You shouldn’t have to guess. Crew Technical Services will tell you upfront if a permit is required and why.
Do you handle permits and inspections for me?
Yes. Crew Technical Services handles permits and inspections for you. That includes permit applications and coordinating inspections (rough-in and final, depending on the job) to ensure everything is code-compliant when complete.
Whether you’re a homeowner or a property manager, you shouldn’t have to chase down paperwork or manage the process yourself. Crew Technical Services manages it end-to-end and closes the job out properly.
What payment methods do you accept?
Crew Technical Services accepts major payment methods, including credit cards (VISA, MasterCard, Amex), e-transfer, and cash.
Can electrical work be financed or paid by credit card?
Yes. Crew Technical Services accepts all major credit cards, and payment can be collected on-site.
Crew Technical Services also offers financing through Financit, a third-party Canadian financing provider for home improvement and service projects. Eligible customers can apply through Financit’s application process and, if approved, spread project costs into monthly payments instead of paying everything upfront.
How quickly can I book an electrician in Calgary?
For urgent electrical issues, Crew Technical Services can often provide same-day service, subject to availability and location. For non-urgent repairs and project work, bookings are scheduled as soon as possible based on scope, access, and technician availability.
You’ll get clear timelines upfront and honest scheduling from the first call.
What should I expect during my electrical appointment?
A licensed electrician from Crew Technical Services arrives at the scheduled time, reviews the issue or project, and confirms scope and pricing before work begins. If the work can be completed the same day, it typically will be. If coordination is required (for example, panel replacement requiring utility coordination and inspection scheduling), the next steps are explained and scheduled clearly.
After the work is complete, your electrician will review what was done, confirm everything is operating properly, and answer any questions. The goal is a straightforward, professional experience with no surprises.
